Measuring Your Research Impact

Grants and awards - whether for scholarship, teaching, service, or something else - are a unique part of the impact ecosystem. Some ways to measure, track, and understand the impact of grants might include:

• Specific role (PI, co-PI, etc.)
  • If this was a team effort: what was the breakdown of contributions?
• Amount awarded
  • If the grant is ongoing: funds intended vs. funds obligated
• Funding organization's identity (agency, foundation, etc)
  • Selectivity (was this a competitive grant? What was the acceptance rate?)
• Outcome
  • Creation of particular programs
  • Interviews/testimony from communities
  • News articles/attention from the media
  • Publications/patents
    • Number of citations of the resulting publications
